Pain Points of not having Proper Furnitures for Work from Home

Once upon a time Work from Home was an option for one or few of the days in a month. But now work from home seems to be the norm without an end in sight. Along with the convenience of working from home comes body aches and pains to many of us due to unavailability of proper furniture. Perhaps sitting for long hours and working over the kitchen table, supporting a laptop while cross legged on the chair / couch will take a toll in the form of physical stress. Without having an ergonomic setup, you may be encountering musculoskeletal problems like shoulder, neck and back pain as well as wrist and leg problems due to improper postures. Below are some common issues, and how to avoid them.

Shoulder and Neck Pain:

Shoulder and Neck area pain is common when you are working in poor posture. Especially when working in laptop / desktop, use a desk at the correct height and put your monitor at eye level with keyboard centered in front of you, so that you can keep your shoulders and neck in the right position. Ensure the desk you choose a desk size with enough surface space so that you can place the everyday use items like mobile phone, notepad, files, water bottle, etc within your easy reach. Ideal length of your table can be between 80 CM to 90 CM and width can be between 40 CM to 50 CM for those who work with Single Monitor screen. For those who use more than one monitor length can be between 120 CM – 130 CM and Width can be between 50 CM to 60 CM

Back Pain:


Back pain is a problem with most of the working professionals especially those who work for long hours with laptops / desktops. Leaning forward to type on a keyboard can put strain on your back and compress the vertebrae. Only solution for this is to have a chair with proper lumbar support and allows you to sit in a slightly reclined position.

Leg and Thigh Cramps:

If you get cramps in you it may be due to poor blood circulation. According to experts, this maybe the result of kneeling or leaning on your leg for long hours. Standing for a while,taking breaks in-between work and walking around your home for few minutes will help in improving the blood circulation.
